Another GREAT lizard is a blue tongue skink. I have a Merauke Blue Tongue Skink. They get larger than bearded dragons and have such interesting, funny personalities. They aren't tiny and interact a lot more than something like a leopard gecko or corn snake would. Blue Tongue Skinks need a 40-75 gallon sized cage and are much easier to tame as well as being a lot cheaper to house and feed. Mine loves to be out ALL the time and I highly recommend them!

I have MANY videos on my youtube page of my Blue Tongue Skink, videos of random things, eating, etc. :]

Mine is only 9 months old and already 20 inches long. He is beautiful too look at and very friendly as well. :]

My boys have both Bearded Dragons and Fire Skinks and I think both are excellent choices. We have hatched 2 clutches of skinks this year, with another due in a week or so.

This thread is on the Fire Skinks we have been hatching:

I would say between the two the skinks are easier to care for once set up, but the Beardies tend to be more willing to engage with you and show a higher level of curiosity. You can certainly get skinks tame, but it is a lot more work and does not seem to be their natural inclination.

Both are beautiful lizards and very rewarding pets!

this is a bad pic of my two favorite beardies. i used the cage i had these two in to hold Tarot, my tegu. they were a 1.1 pair of beautiful white hypos, Boris and Veva. they were the perfect compliment to one another. Boris was a spaz at first, them calmed down to simply active and curious. Veva was fearful at first, then calmed down to the perfectly calm (bordering sedentary) beardie. she was perfect for educating people about reptiles. small children loved poke her and squeeze her and she wouldnt react at all. a great introduction to the larger lizards. they were 18 inches long.
