Just picked up a beautiful new big boy named Tonka. Some of you may remember that he once belonged to Herpgirl who is a member here. Seems she had rehomed him to somebody that promised to give him a forever home. I happened to catch an ad on kingsnake the other day and made contact with the owner who lived 2 hours from me. The guy had been keeping him in a very small dog carrier with a towel in it for months. It was quite disgusting to see how this amazing animal had been kept for so long.
Needless to say he is in a much better home now. It took a couple hours of soaking and picking to get all the stuck shed off him. He is such a good boy! Probably the tamest large tegu I have personally dealt with.
I have reached out to Herpgirl ( she hasn't been on here in a while) to let her know where he is and that he is doing well. Received an email from her today giving me some more info on him.
Now I just have to start on a new enclosure this week for him as my adult male red will not stop trying to mount him
I will post some pics of him tomorrow. You can search " Tonka" and find many that Herpgirl had posted in the past.

I remember seeing posts of tonka when i first became interested in tegus. Sucks to hear about the conditions he was kept in, but its good to hear he has a new home.

Thanks guys. He is doing so good. He truly defines "puppy dog" tame. Ate like a champ after a nice bath. :)

what a beauty! so sad that he's been living in such bad conditions for so long. but i suppose its better than those poor tegus who've been kept badly for years or from the beginning. I'm glad he's still tame for you right outta the gate! :D i know id be grumpy if i was kept in a crate for two months...

Its just sad to see how these animals are treated sometimes. He had at least two layers of shed on his tail that was a nightmare to get off. Also had a bunch stuck on his toes.
In the end Im just glad I ended up with him. Last night he took a bath, ate a ton, then wandered around the room for a couple of minutes before climbing onto my lap and falling asleep....so friggin cute!
