I clip them with regular nail clippers from my manicure set. Clip only a bit not to cut the blood vain that is inside the nail. Some tegus have really dark nails, but you should still be able to see the vain at least a bit.

I have one of those claw trimmers that you would use for cats/small dogs...I would echo Dee-Dee's advice not to clip too much. After I clipped the nails I filed them a little with a nail file, then I applied small dog claw caps. YMMV, but I just went through the process the second time...the caps stayed on for about 6 months. Talia didn't even seem to notice that they were there, just went about her normal lizard business. I'm pretty sure I've posted a pic or three of her with her sparkly mani/pedi.
