Unsual Colors????

I purchased a b/w tegu in the beginning of July 2010. When I first got him he was 10", and now two months later he is about 28". His underside from his throat to the base of his tail is mostly orange. He has orange and yellow speckling on his back and on his side. I have two questions: first is it normal for a tegu to grow so large in just two months? Second is it strange for him to have this colorations because most of the b/w tegus I seen are just b/w?

that is normal, i had 2 female black and whites both change that color before winter and it just went away during spring when they shed. as far as the growth it just mens he is eating good and getting good care, my tegu nero was nearly 4' by the time she was 6 mo.

Could those color be due to a rich diet? My arg Chunky has bright yellow on his entire underside. I figured its due to a base diet of puppy food......

A base diet of puppy food will be quite detrimental to your tegu in the long run. You should check out this website and the myriad of posts about tegu foods. Puppy food is for puppies, not tegus.

The colors from my tegu doesn't come from eating puppy food. I never feed my tegu puppy food and don't plan on it, because I heard it's bad for their liver. I try to keep his diet natural as possible.

As stated here, it seems the darker tegus have more red/orange on their underside.
