Vanishing sheds

My little guy started shedding the other day... All toes, legs, and belly skins are accounted for. I just can't find his head plate. It doesn't look like it's still on him... I just couldn't find it in his enclosure. Is it common for it to still be on them, but be difficult to detect? I tried rubbing my finger along his neck and the edge of his mouth but I couldn't find anything. Any ideas? Could he have eaten it? Like I said, everything else is accounted for (except his tail skin, which I'm coaxing off right now).

It could be lost in the substrate. Mine is weird with head shedding too. The skin around the tip of the snout sticks around until it is time to shed again. I dont think I've ever seen him with an evenly colored head! Im hoping to break the cycle with a LOT of humidity and baths.

That was my first thought. It's difficult to find HIM buried in his substrate, let alone a flimsy flap of old skin. His head doesn't seem dull in color, so I'm assuming that he shed it without issue. I still see unshed skin on the bottom of his tail, though, just past behind his vent. The weird thing is that I only see it on on the bottom. The top looks like it's shed, but I see no "shed line" along the sides of his tail. That's weird...

My tegu is going to be starting her third shed soon. I have yet to see any piece of her head come off. Her lower jaw has all her toes and tale. But I have not seen her head. Once I notice that she is going to be shedding I give her a daily soak. Her head is getting very dull in color now though.

Did you see the shots of my boy Zaltys (extreme) with his head all white?
He shed his skin that day AFTER the shoot. It's possible it's still there, you just can't see it. Soaking does wonders with reptiles. Sounds like a good project for my "herd of herps" tomorrow.

...Anyone else just think of Silence of the Lambs? lol, kidding. My beardie does the same thing. When he was a baby you could find his shed skins, but when he started growing like weed they would magically disappear. The other day he was rockin' the tank top and farmer's tan look, so i let him play in the kiddie-pool. Then 2 days later, presto-change-o. No skins to be found. Our chameleon is the same way, which is even more of a mystery. He completely sheds in about 2 to 3 days, and his skin's like tissue paper...But you never find it. He looks hilarious when he's in mid-shed though. Almost like he's wearing a fine suit of ruffles.
