WAKE UP ALREADY.... just want me little one to wake up.. I have been checking everyday. She is always in a different position in her burrow. Since she burrowed up against the glass I can look in there and see. I misted yesterday and noticed she woke up to take a couple licks of the glass and then back down.. who else is still waiting?

Re: WAKE UP

Blender is still not waking up. I am in so cal and you would think he would be up. But we had frost on the ground on yesterday and it was 80 today. Tad confusing? When I checked on him yesterday he was laying on his back. I thought he was a gonner. Seems to be ok now.

Re: WAKE UP

achilles came out in late january and was fully active by febuary although i think him getting shipped here in mid decemer may have played a part by him being disturbed!

Re: WAKE UP

Mine does the exact same thing, I can see him hibernating in his den since he has made it right against the glass. Eyes were open for a little 2 days ago for a little while, but back asleep again. Hope he comes out soon, I miss him.

Re: WAKE UP

Maybe she knows something we all don't. Today it was in the low 30's and snowed..lol... Screw the groundhog, I will go off of the tegu from now on.

Re: WAKE UP

I have six Tegus. 1 didn't hibernate. 1 burmated, two came out of hibernation on Valentines day :) and the other two ( the All American hatchlings ) are still hibernating.

Re: WAKE UP

Reptar is still hibernating. I've been going in everyday, and digging him out and chilling with him for about an hour or so. I take him outside (arizona) to get some sun and just play with him. And then i put him back in his cage, and he usually goes right to bed. Today we were on the couch and i was laying down and he tried to burrow underneath me! i passed out and woke up to reptar laying directly under me between me and the couch. I've increased my light (solar glo); hibernation is all about circadian rhythms which is respective to the pineal gland (a photo-receptive "third eye" in most animals). Due to a 14/10hr light period with my solar glo, he's getting more heat (as opposed to no light or heat during hibernation) which will speed that metabolism up as well. All these factors play into getting his little butt in gear, and ready to eat some food for the first time in what seems like forever! just give ur gu some time, and it also doesn't hurt going in there and socializing with them. ur not going to disrupt anything or cause any damage by waking them up now, because more likely than not they'll just go back and pass out. At least you get them started by waking up everyday, and also it doesn't hurt to start presenting food. Reptar teased me by taking ONE bite of some monitor diet, and then like a snob refused any more. but all in due time.

I would just let him come on when he is ready. Most people on her advise against digging them up from their burrow and taking them out of it. But, it's your tegu. He might not seem to mind it since he is still so tired and basically in hibernation though.

Re: WAKE UP

I consulted with my local reptile shop before anything, and he said since its so late in his hibernation that it wouldn't make a difference. It seems to come down to preference. Do you know of any health issues associated with the assistance of waking a gu in such a late stage of hibernation? He's been sleeping since early november to april; a good five months. Is it really considered that much of a traumatic experience for them, because it doesn't seem so? I wouldn't expect a resilient monitor to be so easily frazzled by being wakened for an hour a day, but then again y'all have been there before i have. He's definitely relaxed (due to probably still being half asleep), but he does seem to be pretty energetic once i get him awake. Then towards the end of our bonding hour he'll usually burrow himself under my leg and start to sleep again, and that's when i'll put him back in. I just want to make sure im not causing severe mental trauma to reptar. Now i'd understand if i was digging him up in early december, but mid april? wouldn't mind some more feedback, i love the help from people with XP.

She came out today! I am going to let her be for a couple days before I try to handle her or anything. Let her just relax under the light and warm up.. Will try food later in the week if she keeps coming out.
