water dechlorination

I've been wondering about water dechlorination, when I research no one mentions dechlorinating water. I have repti-safe for my crested, but I would go through it pretty fast changing a large water dish everyday for my future tegu. So that got me thinking, I keep several large fish tanks and use prime to treat my water. So would it be fine if I used it for my tegu also?

Here is a link to the product i use for my fish, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Prime.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.seachem.com/Products/product ... Prime.html</a><!-- m -->

thanks

That I do not know.

I have always used tap water for all my reptiles. Including my Anphibs like the Gators and Caiman I have owned.
I have never had a problem.

With tegus the clorine in most peoples water is harmless to such a large animal. Cresties and some other tropical herps might be susptiable to it but most of these guys are raised on tap water. Unless your planning on using pool water i wouldn't worry about it. Save the money and time you'd use perparing the water and invest it in good lighting, this is seems to be a part of husbandry that gets over looked until a problem arises.

Keep in mind some municipalities use a lot more chlroine/chloramine than others...

I'm fiortunate enough here that the chlorine levels aer not to high and I do not treat my Tegus water at all. Likewise if adding 20% or less to my aquariums I do not use dechlor.

But in some areas where more chlorine is used, using a dechlor might make sense.

I've used Prime for aquariums for about a dozen years. I've never personally used it for reptiles, but I would not hesitate to if I needed a quality dechlorinator.

I'll run to the store and find a chlorine test kit or just find some info on the local water treatment plant. I'll probably do the latter since its storming outside at the moment.
