Weird Hibernation?

Soooo...is this weird?

Boosh (my B&W) stopped eating a couple of weeks ago (as temps began to drop). I figured he was just going into hibernation.

BUT, Boosh keeps coming out during the day...crawling around, etc.

I offer him food, but he won't eat.

Is this still "hibernation"? Will he eventually just stay "down", or do they emerge even during hibernation? Should I keep offering him food?

More importantly...is there any problem with this?

I was contemplating just installing another heat lamp by his basking spot to see if I could just halt the hibernation phase altogether (I have no intention of breeding Boosh at this time). This way, he'd not only continue growing, but more importantly, we could continue bonding.

Ideas?

Thanks dudes.

Some people have turned up the heat a little bit, but not above what would be normal temps. However he is going to do what he's gonna do. They can tell seasonal changes through barametric pressures and such. Keep offering him food and make sure he has fresh water daily. Hope this helps

Well, would you consider that behavior as being "hibernation"? Or is it a stage of it?

Will him not eating but still being active pose a problem ?

Are you offering different types of food. They can get finicky about different foods, just like people. How active is he? Is his tail still fat? Is he drinking? They can go a while without food as they probably can in the wild. I don't know how long that is though.

Hi, my tegu, Jasper has never hibernated. Last Sept. he decided to stop eating and I thought he would hibernate. Until one day in early October when I put my hand in to get the water dish out and he came FLYING out of his hide like he was starving. Offered food and that was it. An eating machine again. So much for hibernation. I think he "brumated" for about 3 weeks LOL. He doesnt eat as much in the winter but he eats a fair amount. I only offer food 2x a week which he usually eats. This is opposed to the 3-4x a week in the spring and summer. Anyway, I babble on...

our boy did this a few weeks ago he still came out but refused to eat he did this for a week or two, and now he is totally in hibernation and is fine, so yours may be doing the same thing.

Thanks guys. I'm planning on putting a ceramic heating element in there this weekend. I never really intended on Boosh hibernating...if he does--fine. But I'd rather just keep him warm and eating and bonding with me. Obviously, it's HIS call.
