I wouldn't use wooden or plastic tongs... You simply cannot clean them well enough, and Tegus eat things that inspire microbial growth. I use Stainless Steel tongs as they can be cleaned and do not harbor bacteria. I actually do not know a single keeper that uses the plastic or wooden...
The woods is a great place to find isopods, and many other beneficial critters like earthworms etc.
If you are set on purchasing them, I usually recommend Cape Cod Roaches. Good selection, healthy bugs, good customer service. Potentially a bit pricier than other options, but I think it's worth...
Lure her out with a favorite food. That's what I do when Kep is sleepy. Mouse, grapes, or an earthworm on the end of a set of tongs usually does the trick for me.
Bio active? Leave-um! They are just the fruiting body anyway and your substrate is riddled with their actual bodies-long filaments that actually benefit your live plants.
You will notice(probably) a major boost in your CUC numbers after a mushroom bloom. :)
I swear I only went into the shop for nightcrawlers, morio worms, and small fuzzy tasties! We all know how that goes, though, and I picked up another dragon. Adult female, around three years old I was told. Previous owners had her on that nasty orange sand stuff and gave her up with kitty litter...
red runners are DIRT cheap. They also breed extremely prolifically if hit with some heat. Nightcrawlers would be a great idea! Huge hit in my house.
And yeah, dubia are like roachy gold hahaha
have you tried day-old chicks? If your Gu is too small, you can always chop them to be managably...
My Gu doesn't care for morios much either, but my bosc goes nuts for them. Try dubia or other roaches. I've even had luck feeding large adult red runners(Blatta lateralis) to mine, but it takes a TON to fill a tegu off red runners.
tried any bugs? Get some big crix or roaches or morio worms. I've never had a critter turn down hornworms either. Good luck, and def. get those temps up asap as that should boost his appetite some. What kind of uvb are you using?
Wow, Joanne! Its been a while!! I'm pixel/pixall from the beardie community, don't know if you remember me. Its been like three/four years so no worries if not! In any case, nice to run into you again and welcome!!
