If you don't substantially (albeit gradually) reduce a snake's temperatures and light cycle, it doesn't brumate. Some snakes won't breed succesfully without brumating, some snakes don't seem to mind.
Thanks so much for that info!!! I'm used to breeding snakes and I am most definitely the one who decides whether or not they're brumating. So far my girl doesn't seem overly inclined to hibernate so I'll keep a close eye on her eating/sleeping behaviour and go from there. You've eased some...
So, my new baby is approximtely one year old and I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to hibernate him/her. Anyway, the research I've done indicates that hibernation is more important for a female than a male and being as I just got the little monster I selfishly don't want him/her to go...
No worries. Since he needs to come out of his enclosure on a near daily basis to be fed not to mention the fact that I love just chilling with him, he'll never be a 'look at' reptile. I have some of those (nasty rat snake, anyone?) and they're great but I prefer the animals I can actually...

Thanks...

Hi guys,
I'm finding lots of info. regaring growth rates, sexing, etc. but no information so far on how old a tegu is when it is said to be 'full grown'. I know my yearling male definitely has some more growing to do but will he grow until he's eighteen months, two years, three years, five...
Hey! My name is Christina and I'm a reptile addict. I keep everything from an albino pacman frog to various species of rat snakes to an indicus ssp. to leopard geckos, to day and crested geckos, to a Russian tortoise and everything in between. Add four dogs, two cats, and a couple aquariums and...
