Congratz on your new Tegu and welcome.
Just a tip seeing you got so many animals......Tegus do require lot of quality time to be and stay dog tame. It's not a "look at" reptile :)
So give him as much attention as possible and you'll have a lap-Tegu.
Sorry guys for not writing......Haven't had time to be in my PC since last week....someone wanna trade responsibilities with me?? :)
Anyway the vet was here yesterday and his conclusion was that I'm simply too over protective.
He said that the mouth thing was because of Junior not shedding...
Crusher: I've looked everywhere for an alternative substrate. Though since reptiles are not a popular pet here it's almost impossible, and most reptile owners here got their animals on peat, newspaper, artificial lawn or eucalyptus mulch(which molds very easily indoors).
Meg: UVB tube 11 inches...
Ok so I've just come back to life after fighting swine flue for 2 weeks. So today I got the chance to look closer at Junior.....So I took him out for a free roam and I noticed that he also had problems walking. I then immediately divided Juanchas outdoor enclosure and put Junior there so he can...
Hiya guys! Long time no see!
My 2 guys woke up just a few weeks ago. And I haven't had much time to be online :D
Anyway I think there's a problem with my little guy Junior.
The thing is I don't know what can have caused it.
I have him in a good controlled enclosure that keeps good temps and...
^^ it's an hysterical issue which i think every tegu owner worries about.....especially when it's his first "hibernation". So just go with it makes one mad.
How ever....Junior was hatched february 2009. Which is kind of late, since here they usually hatch between december - january. And since...
Astonishing!!
I made a video like that myself, though with my one and best example reptile: Juancha. Watch the vid and you'll know what i mean.

Hey all!
So down here it's plain hibernation season now and Juancha went totally under a month and a half ago. But Junior how ever simply don't wanna sleep.
He's slowed down a lot(started more than a month ago), and is only up between 09:00 - 12:30. He still eats a little chicken once or twice...
If you wanna see just how tame an ADULT WILD CAUGHT became after only 2 months in capture, watch this one.

Id say you have puff the angry dragon over there. Huffing and puffing is a pre strike warning. Somethings obviously bothering him.
Do you house them together? How old are they? What's the size of their enclosure? Do you feed them together in their enclosure?
Sometimes tegus just aren't...
I wouldn't recommend it for more than a week. No matter if he has a hide/humid box. Humidity would still be too low generally.
Don't know why you just can't use cypress mulch right away....but in the meantime use plain eco dirt or compost.
Congrats on your new tegu!
Your tegu simply needs time to settle in in his new environment.
You are better off not touching him nor stress him in any way. Just keep a bit of a distance for the following week or two until he get's somewhat comfortable and starts to eat. After that you should...
I think it all depends on enclosure size. If you cramp in 2 adults in a 6x4 it still would be too small for them to act on their natural behaviour. Which is the same as many other reptiles....competition and territorial behaviour. And if they go at each other, there will be a winner and a loser...
