To pick her up, slide a hand under her hips, lift, then, as she's coming up, slide your other hand under her shoulders. Make sure that her pelvic girdle and shoulder girdle are supported all the time, then either hold her gently to your chest or try to lay her out on your arm. This is what...
And here's a tail base pic. Maybe she's just pleasantly plump and I'm overreacting, but it's time to reduce her intake anyway, I would think. This is during the same couch visit.
Looks like someone is in for a diet. After comparing my girl against a bunch of pics on here, she's definitely overweight. Me feeding daily + her refusal to take anything not whole prey are definitely the cause. Poor Stella is going on a diet. I'm hoping that feeding every other to every...
The biggest challenge has been how amazing she is at getting into the tightest, most inaccessible hiding places that she can find. She's finally big enough that she can't get under doors, under the stove, or under the fridge. I still have the TV stand blocked off (that took about 6 tries to...
I just thought I'd post a little update on my "baby." She is now 32" and 2 lbs 15 oz. She's still very laid back, docile, and not scared of anything or anyone. My eight year old daughter LOVES her. A typical day for us now is as follows.
I get home from work at about 3, after picking my kid...
Yeah, the fridge seems to be absolutely irresistible. A towel doesn't even work, my girl still gets under there. Her exercise time is now in the bedroom. Dragging the fridge out to retrieve her without the wheels cutting her in half twice was enough for me.
She has some of that going on (fish oil on/in the food). I'm just a picker, but I only pick off what comes off with no effort. Mostly, I'm focused on those toes and tail tip. The rest is just a bonus.
Has anyone else ever been standing in the bathroom (or anywhere), tegu in hand, picking off loose skin scute by scute from the head, or back, or belly, or really anywhere, while your tegu is sitting there, limp, eyes closed, in apparent bliss, and thought about how incredibly awesome it must...
We're up to about 22" now and she's just a big, docile baby. She's also not scared of anything. At all. I hope your experience with yours is as good as the one I'm having with mine.
It will regenerate, but it will likely be solid black and the scalation will be noticeably different than the original. Accidents happen, and your tegu will be fine :).
I see mine drink frequently. She then kicks a bunch of moss into it because she's apparently not a fan of clean water. She usually drinks deeply after she's been roaming around getting exercise, even though I have a water bowl for her right by her "I'm going on an adventure!" basking light.
