    Feeding and growing

Does anyone feed with the proportions as referenced in [1994 Study: “The Diet of Adult Tupinambis Teguixin(Sauria: Teiidae) in the Eastern Chaco of Argentina,”A Study Performed by Claudia Mercolli and Alberto Yanosky] About 30-40% protein and 60-70% vegetation? This person posted about feeding...

    Tegu Attitude!

Could he be shedding/going into shedding? My blue tongue skink gets super grumpy when he's about to start shedding. Mostly hides when this happens. I used to get worried that my taming was out the window when this would happen but then he'd shed and he'd go back to what he was before. :)

My tegu has never threatened to bite, so ...

Did you have a blog?? I feel like I've seen your second video before. She looks very cute and healthy. :) I've seen one video of someone's Columbian where it actually leaned into the owner's hand while being petted. Then he walked off when he was tired of it. It really did look like he liked it...

    Enclosure and free roam

Awesome! That's good to know! I was thinking it would be nice to have an enclosure with a dog door that you can securely lock if needed. Then if I go away it wouldn't be cooped up all the time and the pet sitter isn't obligated to spend time with it. Plus it probably wouldn't poop in its cage...

My tegu has never threatened to bite, so ...

I feel like reptiles can be so fickle about this stuff lol. You'll think you've made great progress and then the next day, it's like two steps back. My skink has been like that for sure! Of course, he also gets moody if he's preparing for a shed. He'll hide and not eat for literally a few days...

My tegu has never threatened to bite, so ...

I don't have any actual experience with tegus, so this is just me talking. To me, it kind of sounds like she gets very scared. Some animals react to fear by aggressing (biting) and others just freeze. Restraining them really freaks them out too. You say she calms down if you hold her firm on...

    Tegusonly family

I'd want a hatchling...I'm assuming sex can't be guaranteed that young. That's why I was leaning more towards a Columbian. I don't mind if it takes extra work for taming. Ultimately I'd like an active, interactive lizard who is extremely food motivated for my training experiments. Interestingly...

    Tegusonly family

I think I saw a video of this guy (MacGyver): Not sure if it was this particular video or another one but it just looked really hideous to me. :( monstrously huge jowls when I first saw this one (my initial intro to tegus). I was like, I hope they don't all grow up looking like that...

    Whole food diet

I know this is old but: http://www.fancymice.info/hairless.htm When I was raising feeder mice (2007 or so), I got some that had hairless genes or something. I got mice who became hairless and others that were partially bald, lol! Funniest mice ever! It wasn't really cost efficient for me to...

    Enclosure and free roam

I'm actually wondering this as well. Would a tegu know he needs to warm up/get some more humidity and go back inside his cage??

    Tegusonly family

I think it's a pretty cool way idea to help remove them from Florida. If I were to get an Argentine, I think I'd get one from him. Does he ever have hatchlings? I think I'm actually more interested in the Columbian tegu though. I don't really like some of the pics I've seen of the tegus with...

    Tegu enclosure advice need, Please!!

What kind of experience would you recommend before getting a tegu? I'm also considering a tegu and I'm trying to learn as much as possible, including all the reasons why I shouldn't get one. ;)

    Thor won't stop biting.

Yeah blue tongues can be pretty shy! I think it took mine a few months to stop running and hiding as soon as I came in too. He still hides now when he hears loud noises even outside of the room. I've had him since he was a few days old but he's the offspring of WC adults so he's probably not as...

    Thor won't stop biting.

Do you pull away when she bites? Maybe she's learning that if she charges and bites, you go away, so she's being reinforced for it. I'm still new to tegus but for other animals, I've worn gloves and let them bite so they learn biting gets them nothing. I've also worn latex gloves because they...
