hii,

I have been reading a lot about tegu's but i read a lot of different things...And i just want to do everything right.

1. They say you should never feed your tegu anything alive (i thought because of their feeding response) but a lot of people recommend feeding young tegu's crickets? or do you feed them out of a pincet?

2. I found a site were i can buy whole prey, organ meat and salmon (per 1 kg= 2 pounds?). How much do they eat in a month? If i know this i can estimate the cost.

3. I once heard from a snake breeder that rats are more nutritious than mice? would it be better to feed fuzzy rats?

4. I normally work with the a thermostat and a ceramic heater and led's, this also keeps the cost down.
But i heard that the Solar Raptor heaters are really good (uv and heat in one) But i can't use them with a thermostat, how do you make sure that the themperature wont get to high or to low?

I can help with a few questions.

Live crickets and roaches are OK. They quickly outgrow these, and even when small/yopung they don't need to eat much of them. As grwoing, let your tegu eat its fill. Feed in the morning.

Use frozen/thawed adult mice as a staple. Their bones are well-formed.

Some organ meat and high quality wet dog food are OK. So is salmon.

Thats what i like about forums, you can get first hand information.
the only question i have left for now is how much do they eat. Or how much cost their food each month?

I agree, it does depends on what your feeding. You can feed 2-3 times a day depending on what your work schedule is. Food can be a list of things like, frozen thawed rodents, cricket, superworms, egg yolk, grapes, strawberries, nightcrawlers, some people put ground turkey, I do beef heart and beef liver, kiwi, mango and papaya, snails, whitebaits, smelts, sliversides, crayfish... Ill stop rite there LOL, my list is long ..

25-30 snail per can is about $4 but they give you a deal is you over by the box. In the past I brought a box of 30 can for about $40 but that was only because zoo meds was at tinley park reptile event here in chicago..
