Hello Everyone! I just rescued an Argentine Red... I think it's a male...no idea how old...completely unprepared set up wise but working on it. He seems to brumating, as all he does is hide. He was being kept in a fish tank with less than an inch substrate and no hide. He's in shed... my first question is.. Is it ok if I take him out once a day to put him in the tub for a soak or should I leave him be? He has not eaten anything yet but he did poo yesterday.

Some people soak them often, I don't as mine doesn't care for it. I believe maintaining proper humidity is more important than soaking. If your tegu is brumating I would leave him be.

Thank you Justin!

I honestly don't know if he has gone down for the winter or he's just stressed/weak from poor care. I'm just hoping it's brumation! I'm not doing much better by him right now as I just have him in the laundry room...the tank isn't done yet. I just figured it's the smallest area I have, with heat in the floor and I just put out humidifier in their and make a fake ceiling to try and trap the heat better. Hopefully his tank will be done by next week. I will stop bathing him everyday

Hi Claudia- Could you post a picture of him. See how he looks? Some definitely enjoy bathing, but as long as skin is shiny and shedding is complete, it's not necessary. Moist, not damp, sphagnum is a good bedding for the hide.

Yes. Easy. Hit reply. Below message box will show three tabs: Post reply, upload a file, and other options. Choose upload a file and you can access a photo from your phone's photo library.
