I've bought quite literally several dozen pieces of driftwood from at least a dozen suppliers and have never done more then rinsed off well with a hose. The majority of it has been used in fish tanks and I've never once had a related problem...
you can also boil water and pour it in a bucket and keep the wood in there should kill it if you do it twice just to be sure i always do when i get them outside i got all my beardies woods outside
Ocean driftwood is best. The salt water better 'cures' the wood for long lasting durability. Also salt water parasites will not survive in a freshwater environment. Not to mention water bound parasites will not survive out of water. Thus making "purifying" the would even less necessary.
Second best type of driftwood is stuff that has been burried in marsh muck for a long time (sealed away from oxygen).
