Can I feed a yearling a full size natal rat?

I have a bunch of frozen african soft furred rats. They are full sized adults. Is it true that tegus are able to take bits and pieces of prey animals? I don't want the tegu to choke because it certainly will if it tried to swallow these natal rats whole.

They swallow them whole. We have one adult that shakes them and sometime shreds them. Very messy and stinky!!
