Is it me or do Columbian tegus have pointier snouts than Argentines? I've been looking at a lot of photos or each species and it seems to me the Argentines have a more rounded, U-shaped snout. It's analogous to the differences between crocodile and alligator snouts, IMO. If the snout thing is a diagnostic difference, maybe it will help people from mixing up the two species like I did.

After you have had your hands on one of each you shouldn't have an issue with telling them apart again,.. well I didn't. Looks wise,.. they're completely different from pattern to how they feel. The shape of their head varies just like with other tegus. Some males have more narrow snouts while others are shorter and rounder.

Some people still look at the loreal scale but that has very little to do with it since some black and whites have just one scale on one side and two on the other. So more characteristics have to be looked at like their pattern is more digital, they have way more spots on their head than other tegus and their color. Yellowish or Golden and not just a few spots and blotches here and there.

Hands on,.. Colombians scales are flat and smoother than black and whites as well, B&W scales are a little rough and bumpier.
