Do tegus need hibernation to breed?

I only have one tegu at the moment how is unsexed and a hatchling, but I would like to breed eventually. I've heard that without hibernating they have stretched genitals and can't breed? If hibernation is not essential for fertility, I would like to avoid it.

That's just gibberish conjectured by Bobby Hill. Hibernation helps reset the tegu's biorhythms so that the appropriate hormonal sequencing is set in pace for proper breeding, however it isn't necessary, per se. Just that without hibernation, you increase the odds that your tegu just won't get in the mood.
