Pretty straight forward question. It has probably been asked before but I can't find the thread. So yeah, do they have to hibernate? Is there a way to keep them from hibernating? If he/she starts to hibernate and I wake him up will it cause health/mental problems?
It will hibernate if it feels the need, its natural for them to do it. You can't stop them if they're going to do it. Guru stayed up his first winter but it looks like hes going to go down this year. Gary and Rango have never hibernated and I'm not sure if they will this year.
Only thing I've heard is that they might not be able to reproduce. But there is no proof of it. Personaly, i'd let them. Just because that's what they do.
Thanks for the responses guys. I guess I'll just let him do his natural thing if I do get one. What kind of maintaniance do you have to do while they're hibernating though?
Welcome to the site ,.. take some time to read up and learn as much as you can to prepare for your tegu when the time comes. For now here's a thread that will answer your question.
