Fireflies?

I know fireflies are fatal to bearded dragons and a variety of other reptiles what I am wondering is, are fireflies fatal to Tegus? I have no intention of feeding wild insects or plants to my little girl it's just nice to know if I need to be on the lookout or not.

Not sure about tegus specifically but since its poisonous to every other reptile species I know Im guessing its bad for tegus too im like 99% sure. They use chemicals to cause light I think those chemicals are what makes it toxic. I dont think you sould be feeding fire flies to anything.

I think a tegu would have to eat a considerable amount of fireflies to be affected. I don't think it is a concern. I know Bobby feeds his tegus southern toads relatively often. Some on here said also Cane toads. If toads don't cause harm, ain't much will.

It's actually not the chemical they use to produce the light that is poisonous but the chemical from the plants the fireflies feed on.

That's a good point, I never really thought of that.
