Dear Friends,

I want to discuss about my tegu Gogon. He is 8 years old.

Lately, about 7 days ago, I noticed him has the bad breath,....It it almost similar to the smell of the decomposition prey (he just ate the rodents 2 days ago). For the other signs he is healthy, he is eating well and very active. I don't find wound inside of his mouth...but he has the tendency to bite the lip (especially when he is sleeping).... I have already posted before....and I suggest it is because of the fat accumulation....

Do you ever had any similar situation with tegu?

I am thinking to get him checked, doing the examination including culture test of the throats and X ray on this friday but I will be very2 appreciate to hear it first from you all....

thanks a lot

yuli

my guess would that there is some injury to the stomach.
my only other guess and this had about a 1% chance of being it is that he isnt eating or is regurgitating his meals.with people those who are anorexic or have that disorder where they throw up their meals all the time(i cant think of the word) have very bad breath cause from the afore mentioned.
but its more likely that there is something wrong with the stomach or upper intestines.if you can get to a vet a stomach exam/xray would diagnose is much better than i can.
hope this helps.=]

thank you. that's what I am thinking also. He still eating good. This morning I checked inside of his mouth, and I still can see the 2 rodents he ate yesterday at the bottom of his jowls i mean at the throat area,...I am thinking probably the smell caused by the delay of digestion of the prey or the remainding parts of them at the throats....I will arrange the examination and I will let you know the result...thanks again

that sounds like an irritation to the intestines then. most likely the villi aren't functioning like they should.

Mine get that when there is leftover saliva, food, and mulch stuck in the corners of the mouth. If he is really jowly, it can get hard to clean. Try giving him a bath and taking a cotton swab (or a few) or a washcloth and wiping out the deep corners of his mouth. See if that helps.

thank you Laura,...this morning I noticed Gogon has the saliva mixed with mucous at the end of his throat....He tried to swallow it and this saliva begin to go down...I am monitoring him very closely and I arrange the culture test and x ray but the lab still waiting to get the culture tube,...they run out of it
