I'm not sure how big niles should be before letting him roam...he's like 18" now. He went on the floor accidentally a couple times and it was awful. Really stressed him out. I was thinking about getting a harness and leash so at least I'll have that as a safety precaution. He's so small though, I wonder what size/type would be best and most secure

Niles is growing now that he's up from hibernation. But seems he'd still be a tasty snack for your baby... ;) haha

Speaking of males and females... when do the males start getting the cheeks? Niles is 18" maybe more now... he was probed but since they had never probed tegus before the guess in comparisons was male. I have also heard to feel for bumps near thigh where it meets the tail base? Would I be able to tell now or is he too young? Niles is not a girl name...haha

Mine is about 16" and when I am in the room I let him roam he just goes back and forth from his cage to bask and roaming my room climbing on my bed or sitting on the window seal. I'm just waiting for him to wake from hibernation but as I type this he came out :D. Hopefully he is done sleeping now lol

Wow really? I would be afraid niles would get spooked and hide under my couch or someplace. Twice he jumped down to floor and ran like crazy to hide under the tv stand then once the drum set... :/

The only place in my room I am a little weary about is on my tv stand because of all the electronics. He will go under my bed and dresser but just walks right out whenever he is done exploring under them lol and my cage is on the floor so whenever he does get really scared he just runs back into his cage.
