I have a tegu that i got like 5 months ago and he was around 4 months old and I gave him 2 months to adjust and wasnt really worried about feeding I have had a tegu before and I know how that goes, but now I can visibly see that he is active but not eating and losing weight in his tail.

I have only ever owned one tegu, so I'm not an expert, but I have been keeping mine for about three years now and have kept many other reptiles as well. In my experience, a low appetite is usually associated with low temperatures. It may help to double check that his basking spot is hot enough. You may need a hotter bulb, or to get him closer to the heat source, or both. A good way to check if temperature is the problem is to get him out and feel his belly. If it feels warm, the issue might be something different, but if it feels cool then his body temperature is low which can diminish his appetite. (If you're going to try this I would pull him out while he's basking specifically, as you want to check how well the heat lamp is warming him).
