Im just curious what other peoples tegus are doing this winter? Zilla has decided not to hibernate this year, even though she always hibernated before. She is more active then she was even during the summer. She is up all day, eats a huge meal every day, poops twice a day, its like she is turbo charged, lol.

Is this normal? And what are other peoples gus doing this year?

(Here's some pics. Yes I know she is missing a few toes.. Im not happy about that. Her tail isnt as bad as it looks, that's my crappy camera. Shes also about to shed.)

And since no one answered it well before, I have to ask again. Im worried that she is a bit small for her age. She is almost 2.5 years old and she is 32' Is this small for her age? She hibernated for about 5 months each in the past 2 years. When does a tegu stop gowing?

She is such a wonderfull lizard, a great companion. I love her so much.

Every tegu grows at different rates so I wouldnt say shes small for her age, however daily feedings at starting to show on her. I would cut back to every other day to every 3 days, she needs to lose a bit of weight.

Thanks for the response. I thought that you were supposed to feed a tegu as much as they would eat? Also I really hope Piper does better.

Don't take it personally, the forum has been slow lately. :)

What are my tegus doing? I have 5 adults sleeping soundly. Yesterday the weather hit 86 and two popped their heads up. I have one female that is up and down. I don't know what her deal is. My adult Colombians are up of course. :) My 3 yearlings are all up. I have a little bitty guy that is trying to go down just now.

I wouldn't worry about 32" at 2.5 yo. That is not too small. She might grow a bit next year, too. It is something that is hard to predict for each lizard. Maybe it's me, but it seems that red females are smaller than b/w females. That is just what I have been exposed to, no real evidence of that.

So many tegus. You have a whole army of them, lol. Thanks for the response. I also heard that red females are the smallest of all the tegus, not sure if that is true or not. But its nice to know Zilla isn't stunted.
