Jumping onto uvb fixtures.

I have my uvb bulb in a hooded fixture however my tegu has an affinity for jumping onto it. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking of getting some corrugated plastic tubing and reccessing the fixture inside of it. Raising it higher will not help as the basking temp won't be high enough plus he could still reach it anyways.

They can jump very high. I took the top off my enclosure so he could get better uvb get it all set up go and sit in the other room for a minute and then I heard a plop on the floor. He have me the sideways stare when I walk into the room he knew he did something wrong.

Mine is trying to escape also, I take him outside once a day and I try to let him roam the house but he just does not care for being in his enclosure.
I already had to reinforce the plexiglass door as he managed to enlarge a preexisting crack and squeeze out.

I have to find a harness so I can bring my outside. He out grew his old one.

I'm using a cat harness which is working great.

Unless you're using one of those combo UVA/UVB bulbs, your basking temp wont really be affected by raising the bulb. But it will affect how much UVB your tegu receives so still avoid doing that. How do you have it fixed in your enclosure?

It hangs off a cross member mounted to the roof of the enclosure. I use a zip tie to make sure it doesn't fall.
