Just brought home 13in red tegu from NERD

I’m a new red tegu owner for 2 days now. After months of research using these forums and reptifiles about how to care and tame tegu, I’ve got a decent grasp of the best practices that seem to have a consensus as far as not taking tegu out of hide, leaving him alone for first week and not overhandling etc etc. The advice I got from NERD which is where I got him is to leave him alone for a week and not even bother trying to feed him.

But here is my issue, I also put a lot of stock in what Ty Park says and he told me to handle my gu right away and often if I want to tame, and that It’s fine to dig them up, he does it all the time. I’m not taking this advice out of context as it was the advice given to specifically regarding my 13in red tegu that I just brought home.

I have to pick a strategy and stick with it. Do I go with Ty’s advice or with what everyone else is doing?

Congrats on new gu.

For what it's worth, leave him alone for a week but offer a little food in same plate in same place every other day for the week. He might eat and sneak back towards end of week.

Place worn shirt in hide.

Be prepared for a lizard wanting to brumate.
