La Reptile Supershow Epic Tegu Fail

I just came back from the LA Reptile Supershow and do I have a story for you. One booth had what was labeled "Columbian Tegu" for $250 but upon taking a look at the animal, it sure as hell wasn't Colombian. The lizard was four feet long if it was an inch, looked like it weighed at least 15 pounds, and had jowls wider than tennis balls. Clearly a very large Argentine black and white. I was tempted to point out the error, but I figured they wouldn't believe or listen to me so I didn't. Never thought I'd see an Argentine passed off as a Colombian, but anyone with any knowledge of tegus won't be fooled.

I was at this show! At the Tortoise Forum booth! I had a TeguTalk sheet out for people to see! Didnt catch the Colombian/argentine mixup. I was too busy all day!

I would have mentioned it to them, it could have been someone that didn't know better and received the animal as a Colombian.

I actually bought a male red argentine Tegu from and man and his son, they were breeders from Texas, very friendly and knowledgeable! They had about 8 CB reds with the father there. I got mine for $225the and he is doing great! He's active, he's eating and loving life!

I live in Texas and my '11 red is most likely from them too since I got it from a local Texas breeder, wouldnt doubt it at all...grats on the new guu by the way! If it is from the same breeder mine is growing like a weed and eating everything i put infront of him
