It sounds like you are doing things correctly [temps food, ect ] What a Tegu does when he is not eating and processing his food is attempting not to be eaten himself ..The first thing I would try is put paper or cardboard on the outside of his enclosure ... If he can`t see something then he is less apt to be afraid of it . I would offer his turkey [mouse ] in his enclosure [for the time being] . I also wouldn`t handle him more than necessary right now either ..By hiding and not basking he is not processing his food as fast so I would not be to concerned that he isn`t eating every day[as long as he eats .. ] I would guess the thing he is afraid of is you [nothing personal ] so try to give him some space right now ..

It's a Colombian fortunately you're not going through anything most of us haven't been through with one tegu or another. ;) It takes time, with Colombians more time and patience than usual. If it doesn't come out to eat for a few days,.. don't worry it won't starve itself. Preservation is the most important thing especially for a baby tegu that sees about anything bigger than it is as a predator. Until it figures out you're not going to hurt or eat it you can guarantee it's going to flip out every so often.

As for him not eating much,.. I pretty much guesstimated how much to feed my tegus by the skin fold on their sides. Depending on their size and how hungry they are you might see 1 fold or 2. When they are full their abdomen is plump and round (like your pic). Once they have digested the food and or relieved themselves then you'll start to see the skin fold/s. If not that prominent I would feed a little of something light like turkey or fish and fruit. When it was more prominent I went straight to whole foods, for a baby tegu rat hoppers or fuzzies

Take your time, be patient and go slow, more often than not any quick movements will set'em off. :-D
