I'm not moving too far, but I haven't had to move reptiles before.. I was thinking of getting a cat carrier to put my tegu in, would that be alright? I'm not sure how else to move it, any suggestions? My beardie can fit in a shoe box and my savy will fit in a larger box (or maybe I'll use the cat carrier for it on a different trip). It's not going to be a long ride but it might be a bit before the enclosure is fully set back up. I want to make it as easy for them as I can. I'll have to take everything out of their enclosures, move them and set them back up. Do these reptiles stress easily? I'm really excited, this place has a massive backyard, hopefully I can let the two larger lizards hang out back there in the summer.

I bought a 32 Gal Sterilite Tote and use it to tranport my Tegu. He's commonly travels in it for short distances when I take him out and has even endoured a 12 hour trip (each way) to Michigan and back in it... I wouldn't say he "likes" it, but he doesn't "hate" it either...

Ok cool, did you add blankets or anything like that into it? Substrate? Or was it just him?

I keep three towels in his tote...

When free roaming outside I keep one of those towels with me and if he gets at all unruly I toss the towel over him before picking him up. This keeps his claws out of my arms....

Thank you. I'm sure a tote would be more practical than the cat carrier. It'll probably keep him warmer as he waits for me to finish putting his enclosure back together.

My Tegu actually seems to recognise his tote as 'his'... A few times I've left it sitting out when he's free roaming and he commonly tries to climb in it. Although it's far to small of an "enclosure", I think he appreciates it as a safe, warm "hide"...

Hmm when i had to move my tegu 2 hours away i had a friend sit in the passenger seat and keep the tegu on her chest under his favorite hoodie of mine and she just pet him and he slept through it. To him it probably felt like i was walking around with him under my hoodie.

I tried the tote thing a few times with Bosco and he busted out of it and slept on the dash of my truck. I now use a cat carrier and he likes alot better, he can see out of it alot easier. I often have to move in summer months so i think he likes the air coming through. The litter tegu last time i moved was in a tote and didn't seem to mind it at all. So it really depends on the tegu and the weather, if its really warm go for an open contanior system if its mild or cold a tote with sufficant air holes should do great.

tomorrow is moving day.. do you think it would be alright to put my tegu in the rubbermaid tub tonight or would tomorrow am be better? i have a uth i can use. pulling all the mulch out would be
easier to do tonight, tomorrow might be a little hectic with last minute things... he would end up being in the tub almost 18 hrs.. i can let him run around in the tub before we go so he can stretch

out a bit..
