I know that natural sunlight is ALOT better then using UV bulbs, but actually how much better? I do not have a tegu yet, but hoping to get one this coming season. I plan to take him out for sunlight, but how much would be good? I want to take him out long enough so he benefits from it, but i also cant be sitting out there all day.

I have a couple of basking cages that I use for various lizards. Yesterday my tegus were able to get a couple of hours of sunlight and they seemed to enjoy it. Here's some links to articles that I thought summed it up:

One thing that is interesting to note is the quality of sunlight is not equal everywhere all the time. The article references sunlight in Boston in the winter when the strength of the sun's UV would be weak and a light would be much better. However, here in FL, closer to the equator, and at high noon, I'm getting a much stronger exposure. Also, according to the latest Reptiles article, proper temps are necessary for Vit D production as well. So I guess sunlight exposure in the cooler temps isn't as helpful either. <shrug>
