Hey everyone, here are some pics of a probable female I may be buying. She(?) is a 2010 hatchling, making her a year, almost 2 years old. I need help determining the sex, as of now, it is a probable female - and was sold to the seller as a female. I want to be sure because this may be one of Sobeks future partners, they will be bred together when she is 2 years old, that is if and only if it is a female. No sign of bb's as of now, and males usually get them at around that size/age.

Please do help me out, from what I can tell from the pics I was sent - it looks like a female, ANY input would be much appreciated.

She's missing some toe nails from her old owner before the guy that's trying to sell her now, the old owner had her on sand, so yea. Do let me know ASAP - thanks everyone.

She doesn't look like she will be big enough to breed until at least next year maybe later.

That's what I was thinking. Ill work on bulking her up, plus she's not at 2 years old. I'm in no hurry and thankfully I'm financially stable so its not about the money and it can wait. Thanks for the help bud.

I wanna say female,.. but somethings not adding up and throwing me off a bit to think that it may actually be male. Is it someone local so that you can have her probed to make sure?

The body pic is throwing me off but that may be because it can stand to gain some weight. At the same time the cloaca pic is playing tricks on my eyes. I see what could be if not her pattern buttons.

The dark red patch on the right side next to her cloaca. In between the cloaca and that spot looks like a button to me. It could also be just a spot in her pattern but it's pretty much the same on the opposite side.

How big is she length wise?

Hmm. I kinda see what you mean, she's 2ft. The seller is in California and I'm in Texas, I know how to probe but he doesn't and there's no chance I'm driving there.

The femoral pores don't look bold enough to be a male though. Does that work with tegus? I know it works with iguanas.

I wouldn't risk it unless you have extra space if it does turn out to be male,... or you'll have to re home it. At only 2ft and just over a year it could go either way,.. especially since a lot of males develop buttons around the 3ft mark.

With the pores it is a bit under weight for my taste, at the same time may not be sexually mature to where they're fully developed or even being used yet.

Good luck with the tegu. Is this one from fauna? If so, I almost got a red/bw cross from them but they backed out last minute... Hopefully you'll have better luck! It's a nice looking red.

Who's them? Yea it's from Fauna, been in contact with the guy who's selling it. Pretty sure he's an independent seller though.

Thanks for all the comments.

Thanks, this isn't my tegu though. I was only considering buying it but I have decided to hold off for now. I currently have a blue tegu - proven male, will wait till I get him a female.
