ok so i just got this tegu. its a male argentine black and white. he doesnt let me get near him. he whips his tail and tries to bite me. im not being aggressive at all. he also burrows himself and i cant work with him because i dont want to piss him off by digging him up. what should i do?

How old is your Tegu, also do you know anything about its handling before you if any?

my tegu is about 6 weeks old. i got him from varnyard. hes coming out of his hides more and he only whips his tail when i pet him. he wont let me touch him.

Be patient with him man, let him come to you. No sudden movements and DON"T GRAB HIM! If he hides leave him be let him feel secure. So you have had him for 6 weeks? There are a ton of topics about handling in the black and white and general tegu forum, I suggest you search the forum first.

When they are young they think that you are going to eat them. Just keep doing what you are doing and when he is hiding don't mess with him, because that's their "safe place". Sounds silly but just try talking to him. Put a shirt that you have worn in his house for a little bit so he can get your sent. He is just scared right now and will warm up to you soon. Also if you are holding him and he moves around a lot of tries to bite you, don't put him down. Only put him down when he is being calm. I'm sure right now he is testing you. If you stop touching him when he whips is tail, than he knows everytime he whips his tail you will leave him alone. Promote good behavior. Good luck.
