I have never used pine shavings for snakes, but I know a bunch of breeders and keepers that do. I do use pine shavings for my rodents and have for many years. I have never had any problems related to this, but cedar is a no, no. :)
There are plenty of pine trees up here that are chipped and put in a land fill. I'd assume they would have to be baked before using as a bedding.

Thanks but the pine does need to be proceessed. In the wet form shall we say . It does contain alot of oil. And wouldn't be healthy for the snake.

Pine is supposed to be questionable, because of the smell...but, to each his own...we use mulch for almost everyone. You can get the big arse bags at home depot for just under 5 bucks...that is 2 cubic feet. works great and holds humidity WAY better than pine, imo. we spray down extra when our snakes are ready to shed to up the humidity even more!
Good luck, do you have pics?

None of my snakes like using the heat spot either. Even the side with the UTH they tend to go on the cooler side. Once in a while my ball pythons will lay in the warm spot. My RTB doesnt even like going in his hiding box yet. He likes hanging out on his perch.
