I rescued a 3 year old blue tegu female and brought her home last Thursday. She is a survivor of an attack by a male tegu the owner was trying to breed her with 8 months ago. She went back to the pet store owner who produced her for rehab. I’m questioning what I was told. Had her checked by my vet. Waiting for the blood results but she’s healthy. I was told he paid $$$ for the amputation but claims he “didn’t keep the records.” My vet thinks her hand was severed by the male tegu and there was no amputation by a vet. I didn’t push the seller because I wanted to make sure he didn’t back out. She wasn’t free and I wanted to make sure I got her because she will have a good home. She’s getting used to a new home and is temporarily in a 40 g tank with an hour outside with me. I should have a 75 g ready by tomorrow and she’ll be in that until I get her room ready. My immediate concern is that she’s alert, affectionate and drinking but the only thing she’s had to eat since last Friday was about 2 heaping tsps of raw turkey. Seller was feed her a mash of raw turkey, veggies and fruit. I asked if I could buy some to transition her, I was told they didn’t have any - just gave me a list of what was in the mash which they varied. My vet suggested cooking the turkey and she literally turned her nose up at it. I’ve tried hand feeding her and leaving food in a small bowl in her tank for a few hours but no luck. For now I soak her when we’re outside. I give her a “shower” and she rests her nose on the edge of the tub, closes her eyes and enjoys it. She stays for about 10 minutes then crawls out when she’s had enough. Humidity in tank is 70-80%and temp is 80 degrees. I ordered some canned tegu food to add a bit to the food and sprinkled calcium on what she refused today. Nothing. I also tried cod and will try salmon tomorrow. Hoping someone more experienced here can suggest how to get her eating. I was told she had no hunger strikes, had only the turkey mix her whole life and she is a littler pudgy from the rehab. Thank you in advance. Pat
