So teeju (my adult female rescue I posted about in the "my tegus" section) has been getting dramaticly better everyday, she's fattening up and basking/sleeping... she looks very content.
She's starting to show increased amounts of energy and starting to develop a territory in her big enclosure. Occasionaly I drop a plate of chopped fruits in with her that she'll nibble on, but all meat/insect/rodent feeding has been done out of her enclosure in the feeding bucket (huge horse feeder bucket I have)
Today after basking she started acting a bit differently, when I would open the cage she would almost quicken up a little then come towards me with constant tongue flicks, almost like she wanted to bite but not in an aggressive way. Once she gapped her mouth at me while I had it flat out above her in the "no" posture (all fingers out and flat agianst one another)
I don't want to ruin this good relationship I have developing with her, we're building stairs tonight for one corner of her enclosure so she can come out when she pleases when the lid is open. I would like as little as possible to remove her from her enclosure by hand as the previous owner told me she could be very cage aggressive.
Do you think this will be enough to help stop potential behaviour issues in the enclosure? So far so good, I just don't want to bring back any old bad memories she may have had from previous places. Any advice or experiance is appretiated!
