Underground reptiles probes there tegus just a few weeks out of the egg. I'm pretty sure your is old enough to be probed by an experienced herp vet by now.
If I already had the GU I'd just wait until I could see/feel the external signs.. You should be able to know within their first year without having to probe or guess.
I thought about having rango probed a while ago. He had what felt like one spur and almost nothing on the other side.. I decided not to have him probed because of the possible damage that could occur. A few months later, he started flashing his parts and I figured out his gender. Your tegu should be old enough to probe, if you choose to get it probed make sure the vet has experience with probing.
