Sad sight

I was just in a local reptile shop and saw one of the saddest things I have ever seen. There were 2 red tegus about 18" long in a 3' vision cage. Neither one of them could walk (I suspect MBD), and their feet were disgusting. Not only were the toes gone, on one of them the front feet were pretty much gone. I asked if they were for sale, and was told "no, they are the owners.". I asked if they were rescues and he said no. I need to find out if they raised them from hatchlings because if so I will never buy from this shop again.

Exotic. I was extremely disappointed. If you get a chance go check them out and see what info you can find out.

Was Ken, the owner there or was it one of his employees? Because he does boarding and takes in peoples pets in trades or what ever all the time.

I talked to one of the employees. I asked if they were for sale and he said no they were Kims. So I asked if they just came in or were rescues and he said no. I'm not sure what the deal was with them, bu it was sad.

It always hurts to see neglected pets, no matter who is at fault.
My motherly instincts kick in and before I know it, half of my collection consists of rescues. I can't just walk away. I don't have it in me. I guess im weak.

No,.. I was thinking about it today,.. but I hate going out in this heat if I don't have to. That on top of all the different smells in there does a number on my sinuses. I have to stay on a time limit and keep a one track mind when I go.

 Can't get distracted by all the new and different things. But I'll swing by.

I stopped by just before closing, Ken was helping a family that was in there but still answered some questions. They were surprisingly pretty busy at that time.

I didn't get a clear look at them since they were huddled up in the back sleep. But he said the owner didn't know what to do with them and dropped them off. One definitely has MBD and the other has an infection on his feet that they're trying to clear up. He's not sure yet what he's going to do with them. But they're not for sale.

Some one picked up the black and white female,.. she's not in there anymore. But the Colombian they have advertised on KS is still there and he's pretty decent size.

The Wallaby and Coatimundi get me every time I go in there,.. they are soo cute. So yeah,.. I got a bit side tracked anyway.

Ok that makes me feel better about the shop. Still sucks for the Tegus though.

I almost got a coatimundi a few months ago.

They have 3 of them in there,.. one was chilling and the other 2 were having a ball entertaining themselves. I've been in there a couple of times and they had the wallaby out roaming the store.

Can't say I haven't thought about snatching one up but I need more space.

There was one on craigslist a while back that I almost got, I think she was asking $450. There was also a ring-tailed lemur that I really want, but don't have the space for one.
