I would think if the clams were safe for you then they should be Ok for your Tegu ..I would think that the shells on fiddler crabs and shrimp would be ok and even beneficial to your animal .. Start off slow and see how your tegu handles them ..
I breed tropical fish and I asked Bobby about using fish as a primary food stock. He suggested not making fish more than 1/3 of the Tegus diet.
As for shells... thin shells, like on most crabs, the Tegu can chew up no problem. On the other hand many clams have very thick shells that the Tegu would not be able to chew up nearly as easily.
