Shedding question

Things are going real good with my little girl. She is getting more and more used to me picking her up to the point she doesnt even struggle anymore.

My question is, she has started shedding for the first time yeterday. Most of it came off on its own, but there is still some stuck on her head and a bunch on her feet. Should I pull that off for her? I know a tegu can loose toes to bad shedding.

Just leave it be for now. She's still small so something as innocent as rubbing her toes could cause discomfort. Just keep humidity up and give her baths with mineral oil or some sort of repti shed aid in it and it should come off. If its not off by the next shed you can start trying to rub it off.

Before they shed I up the humidity and when it's ready to come off, I assist. To make sure there are no stuck pieces left behind, especially with their toes and tail. For their comfort,.. as well as my conscience. It also helps with bonding and getting them use to being touched and manipulating places they may not like.

Colombians don't like being touched around their thighs or the base of their tail. Any where around that area can send them into a huffing, puffing, hip swinging and tail whipping hissy fit. But helping them shed meant that I had to touch those areas and Spaz got use to it and Korben's coming around.

I've seen it with other tegus too but not to the same extent as with Colombians.

I will usually help out with a toe or some of the tail but my guys shed beautifully especially since their diet change they literally shine right up to each shed. I only help if it is almost off you an see how it is dry and not stuck to the scales underneath.

Cool, thanks guys. Its only been a day, and its almost all off already. Just some stuff left on her feet. How long do I wait before I give her a hand?

Dozer has never acted that way. A lil heavy breathing but no real signal of being a ****.

I like to let them soak in warm water in the tub or sink before I handle them. So they don't poop on me. Helps with shed too.

I would wait a few days I usually help when it get close to the toenail but you may not need to help. If your humidity is fine he should not need any sprays to shed I have used mineral oil on my savannah she is a terrible shedder.
