I was just wondering how often tegus shed. Zilla hasnt shed in a while, though she also only recently woke up from hybernation.

On a proper diet and feeding everyday while they are growing they can shed once a week, my red is shedding nearly every week and is growing insanely fast, faster than any other tegu ive raised from a hatchling, ill post pics soon

It may take them a while to come out of hibernation and start to get back on schedule. My Tegu has been eating almost everyday but has not shed in more than 3 months since he has been burmating. Even though he eats and basks everyday, during burmation and coming out of hibernation they will not grow so they will not shed or shed very little. I have 2 other females that have been in and out of hibernation and burmating and have not shed since last October. But once they full emerge and shake off hibernation/burmation they will be back to normal.

Yea, thats what mine has been doing. I think she is still in hybernation mode, because she sleeps for days at a time, and usualy untill I poke her. Sometimes she is in her cage, where I leave her alone, and she will sleep for days. And sometimes I keep her out of her cage and let her sleep in my pillow, in which I wake her every day. Either way she eats almost every day, and basks when she is awake, and I give her a bath every week.

Long story short, she hasnt shed since october, and am wondering if its anything Im doing wrong. Her cage tempratures are fine, and the humidity in the cage is ok, but when she is out of the cage (and sometimes she is out of it for days) its not as humid in my room. Also, her diet is almost strictly ground turkey. I cant get her to eat anything else. I do dust it with calcium and vitimin powder. Is that an ok diet? and if not, how do I get her to eat something else?

Is she ready to wake up? Eli went down in january and vanilla went down in september, I've had to wake up vanilla once and she went back down at first chance eli slowed down a lot in nov and ate maybe twice no shedding. Point being your tegu might be trying to sleep and you keep waking her up?

Well i know this has been talked about before, but one thing you could be doing wrong to promote bad sheds is letting your tegu sleep in a pillow for days at a time, they need to be in a cage where the humidity is constantly above 60% otherwise the shed will not be moist enough to come off, resulting in stuck shed and then more shed building on top of the old shed that didnt come off, then you have a problem. If the skin looks real dark there could be two sheds stuck on there. Even if you give your tegu a bath, it still needs to have high humidity throughout the day and a pillow just doesnt do the job. Just my 2 cents

Ive put her in her cage for now, with the humidifer turned up full blast. It looks like fog city in there.

How can I tell if she has dry scales on her that need to come off? It seems like she has some on her nose and tail that look dry, but honestly I cant tell if its just suposed to look like that because of her coloring. I will take pictures when she decides to come out of her hide.
