Stimulating appetite.

My tegu has started to come out of hibernation earlier this week but has yet eaten anything. I waited the first two days to make sure he stays out and he has so I decided to try and feed him ground quail the third day and he went up to it licked it a couple times and then walked off. He did it again today with the ground rabbit. Several questions I have is if the food sits in the freezer too long do you think that will deter him from wanting to eat it? It has been in the freezer since like September when I got him I ordered 5 lbs from Hare-Today. The other thing I was thinking of doing was buying some live pinkies and see if that will stimulate his appetite just to get him to start eating again. What do yall think? Any other suggestions?

P.S. Temps are were I believe they should be at. Its 112' in dead center of basking rock. The hot side is around mid-upper 80's and cool side is mid-upper 70's. Those really range depending on how warm my house is but it does not fluctuate drastically.

It may sound odd but petco sells these dried tuna flakes as cat treats. I'm not sure if it will work with your tegu but mine will try anything if I put a few flakes of the tuna on top of it. No idea why he loves it so much.

I cannot tell you to do this, but Gwangi nearly lost his mind for one of the processed turkey circles that comes in a Hormel cheese and cracker tray. I would not recommend that as a regular diet, though.

Niles ate crickets for me one of the 3 days he was up in january. (He's been down since oct) ... i figured it was 'wiggly ' so triggered a response. Today I woke him because put him in new enclosure. But was uninterested in a cricket I tried to tong feed him. Dubya had suggested a piece of raw chicken thigh recently. I found it delicious, but haven't tried it on niles yet. :)
