Hi there. I have a fully grown male arg b/w tegu that has difficulty picking up food in his own. When fed on a flat tray/floor (food laying flat on flat surface):
1) he would position his mouth in front of the food. No problems here.
2) As he tries to bite, his chin (lower jaw) would hit the tray/floor, and he would pivot his head so that it was facing down almost vertically, and try to bite the floor/tray just in front of the food.
3) He would try to pick it up despite the food not being where he is biting, and keep trying and progressively move backwards until he is about a foot away from the food, then look up and realize that he has moved away from it, and move back and try again, ad infinitum. Unable to eat.
When fed in a bowl he would bite the bowl instead and spill it. He seems to have no problem with his vision, can see movement from long distances away. He has no problem eating from a slanted surface, or anything that is off floor level (i.e. on tongs, resting on the edge of a plate sticking up etc.) even moving prey.
Please suggest how I can resolve this issue. Should I just leave the food there on flat surface and let him get used to it? Would he go too hungry in the interim?
