Reptastic ... Dwarf tegus aren't tegus !!! ... What are they then ? ... I knew they SHOULDN'T have been able to breed ... But things can be done these days as we all know ... Like James said there's green pythons that aren't green ... And BLUE TEGUS that AREN"T BLUE ... What is a dwarf tegu exactly if it isn't a dwarf tegu ?
Now come on ... How many of you have actually seen a blue tegu ?

I have seen a blue tegu, as well as blue green tree pythons and yellow green tree pythons.

Boyd why are you trying to argue the fact that there are blue tegus? Nobody is saying they are as blue as the sky or the ocean. Blue is the name that was given to them because they have a blue tint to them and are different than the normal black and whites.

Why is it stupid that there is a green tree python?

I am arguing because loads of kids are reading this and thinking that there are blue tegus ... And getting them and finding that they aren't blue at all but black and white ... And I've seen breeders saying they get bluer as they get older ... Get over it ... They are black and white
Its stupid that there is a green tree python if it isn't green ... Its not as if most trees aren't green so that it is a specific python that comes from green trees ... Thats obvious ... To call it a green tree python if it isn't green goes against the basic sense of grammar ... As it is to call a tegu blue when it isn't ... Its just a load of nonsense dreamed up by a load of money grabbing breeders ... I LOVE tegus which is why all this rubbish really annoys me ... Stop this misleading nonsense ... There are endless wonderful things to say about tegus as it is without all the commercialised rubbish ... I can't believe some of this stuff on here ... People talking about maybe selling their tegus cos they might see a commercial possibliity on breeding the one they have left !!! ... Some loved tegus you have there don't you !!!

Ok boyd, I am starting to see your point, but I think you are taking the BLUE out of context. The tegus that are named blue are tegus that ARE different than the normal black and white. Do a bit of a search and look at the differences. I understand and agree that they aren't BLUE, but they tend to have a tint of blue to them.

Do you understand why the All American is being called that? Would it make you happier if it was just called a Red/Blue/Black and White hybrid? Naming the blue tegu the blue tegu is not a commercialized marketing ploy, it is a way of differentiating it from the normal black and white. There has been talks by scientists of making it it's own species.

No, man...hell with it. I REFUSE to buy a tegu, from this point on, without using my soon-to-be-released "Tegu Color ID Kit", complete with red, blue, white, and black crayons. If the colors on the specimen don't match the colors of the crayons, then CLEARLY the specimen is NOT a tegu and is merely a clever attempt by a salesman to capitalize on the vastly inflated tegu-colorization market. You heard it here first.

If the accepted MARKET name for that cat is a GINGER CAT, then, by GOD, it's a GINGER CAT with "dark bluey black fur"--"bluey", by the way? You're calling people's language out and you're droppin' "bluey"?!?! Please...

They seem to have a more or less unbroken stripe down the side ... But that doesn't seem t be a definite ... They seem to have brownish noses ... But not always !!!
In the wild there are a multitude of colour differentials ... We have a seriously limited gene pool that we have bred from and are now inventing all these silly names ... We have no idea really what the next generation is going to turn out like ... Goodness knows who Miss Gu's grandmother mated with at some stage ... Those genes will come out sometime ... These breeders come out with all these promises and with nothing to back them up ... They just don't know
The fact is that none of us know that much about tegus at all and all this misleading naming isn't helping matters

I agree that there is a great possibility that the blues are going to get washed out due to breeding them with normal black and whites. It is very hard to tell what previous generations were crossed with.

I believe that there is such thing as a "blue" tegu, now is it BLUE, not necessarily, but it does have blue tint to it.

I have an example for you, tell me what you think....

First of all, you need to watch what you say--it's one thing to show everybody on here you are ignorant of the difference between obvious adjectives and market names, but you start saying things like I "should be up against a wall with a firing squad" and you're looking for problems.

I don't agree with this thread being closed. As far as hijacking, there isn't much more to add to a post about an item for sale on another site when the person selling isn't a member here.

I was trying to keep this thread civilized and help boyd understand the background and reasoning on the "blue" name.
