Wanting to make sure I got this....

Ok, I'm wanting to make sure I am understanding the care before I get one. Got some perspective ones. Yay!

Feeding: I was planning on feeding a mixture of a lot of things- out of cage feeding. Livers, gizzards, ground turkey, chicken eggs (scrambled, boiled), fresh fish seldomly, f/t rodents and trying fruits like strawberries, kiwi, bananas, etc hoping it'll take them. Every other day use calcium powder with D3, off days use the cod fish oil.

Housing: 8x4x4 cage, one door that opens into room. UVB light, halogen light for hot spot. 110 basking, 85 hot side, 75 cool. Still researching night time temps. Kitty litter box for water bowl. 8-9 inches of cypress mulch substrate. Rocks for climbing and basking. Driftwood, fake plants for decorations after quarantine period of 2 months.

I plan on attempting to litter box train. I'm assuming earlier I start with that, easier it will be? Plan on building an outdoor enclosure (for all my herps - snakes too) this summer to let him get some sun when were outside. Regular visits in summer as my mother (lives across street) is excited something will eat her hard-boiled eggs. Free roam for a few hours a day after big enough not to hide.

If I'm missing anything let me know.

I think you will be a great owner, and you seem like you really care. Take a shot at it, and you can learn more as you go. you will learn more from him then we could ever tell you!

Out of the majority of reptiles ( and other pets) I've gotten for my kids, even with constant reminders, I too end up as caretaker as well...and yes, many things we must learn as we go. Each animal is unique just like people. It seems you have researched and will be well prepared. I applaud you for this as so many buy animals on whim then say "now what? " :)

My daughters are 5 and 3. They feed and water the dog and cat, but my husband and I take care of the reptiles. I do make them help on cleaning day though. Lol.
