Young Black and White questions about taming

I have a young Black and white male Argentine that I am kind of at a loss as to where I should start. He came out of hibernation the end of march and eats daily like a pig! I cannot develop any trust with him. Anytime that I enter my reptile room he darts for his hide. He doesn't eat in front of me. Just hides when I'm around. I hope that my chances aren't ruined because I had to remove a couple ticks from a bad coco fiber batch that got to him. He calmed down pretty fast when I removed the tick and treated the small bite marks. I just don't want to push the envelope with him. Should I just leave him alone? I don't want to disturb him while hiding in his safe zone. I have had Tegu's in the past, but they were never this skittish. Any tips. ideas, pointers, etc, would be very helpful.
