Evening everyone!
As a part of my research I work with/order tegus from a variety of breeders, wholesalers, Rodney Irwin, and some caught with FWC Florida. When ordering I sample them with photos and measurements (I only pull blood on animals 20cm+ snout-vent). Then I re-sell them after I have them eating, pooping, and soaking on a schedule...to where I feel they are growing right and healthy as a...well tegu!
This money 100% goes towards supporting my research for tegu conservation in Brazil/Argentina, removal efforts with invasives for Everglades restoration, and genetic testing to better understand the taxonomic relationships of 3/7 species+blues!
Right now I have gorgeous blues that are 75% blue 25% Chicoan from Hector in Florida..he is awesome!
They were born 6/23/15 and will be ready to go 7/20/15! They are not a true cross as Blues are still considered Tupinambis merianae...all my work so far shows they are a phenotypic variation, or potentially a subspecies. I will know more when the blood samples are run in a couple years!
Why cross a blue back to an argentine, specifically a chicoan? ALL blues world wide originate from 12 animals illegally imported by Columbian poachers from Brazil 15-20 years ago..so now MANY are very inbred...I see lazy eyes, deformed limbs, and dwarfism (BAD genetics..NEVER buy an animal purposely bred for dwarfism
Or other harmful traits!!!!). By breeding to argentines/chicoans then back to blues we INCREASE gentetic diversity=organismal and population health! These babies will look like blues but be bigger, have more white coloration, and solid black stripes instead of broken bands...yet retain the features of blues: burnout nose, eye-hip stripe, and sunlight exposure "tanning" of blue coloration (blue is from Sun exposure! Many look silver even when 100% blue)
I am selling them for $280+ship. Send me your zipcode and I will give you a cost that includes overnight shipping fedex. Please EMAIL me, only 5 left and YES individual pics/video are available!
