Hey, I got my tegu back in may I think, well recently I built him a big 6x3 multi-story cage, well as of recently he has not been coming out of his hide, and has been sleeping alot, even when I pulled him out, he went right under one of my racks and started trying to dig, well today he dug himself a big burrow and kind of barrackaded himself in, I checked his basking temps and they are good, so I dont think he's going into hibernation do you? He was sold to me as 3 years old.

he has just started doing this, I think he is just making himself a kind of burrow. Now that he has it all built up, he left a little hole, and he came out last night while I was cleaning cages. I took him out and he was fine. Maybe he just wanted a more private place to hide.

jerry is right. I would keep the lights on for 8 hours after a week or so if not active reduce to 6 hours. and so on til no lights are on. I hibernate my GUs at 60 degrees in large bins filled with hay & leaves . I spray the substrate every 2 weeks. hibernation for my GUs is August til April because its just cold here in sunny PA lol hope this helps a little.

Will Blender hibernate in SO Cal? I was told by a reptile store owner that tegus dont hibernate here?

lol bro I wish I lived in SO CAL no freezing my A. off lol ok So cal is similar to Argentina in climate. Tegus hibernate especially Argentine Tegus internal clock triggers hibernation my start hibernating when temperatures are in the 90s. mine seem to just shut down go in the burrow close it with hay & leaves . I dig them out in september and place them in hibernation bins kept in my basement the temperatures are around 50-60 degrees. so yeah blender may hibernate or just slow down.
