Hey guys. I’m a brand new tegu owner, I’ve done a lot of my own research, i Don’t really need help but I wanted to get on here with such a kind community and put my child out there. I got him 9 days ago, He’s a baby blue tegu (wasn’t able to tell if he’s a male or female 
)Thats about 1 and 3/4 months old, he was produced by “Amazing Geckos” and he is very adorable. I’m going to write all his behaviors and what I’m currently doing so you guys can judge and fix anything.
He is 9 inches long, as of current he is in a 36”x18”x18”. Yes I know this is smaller than the recommended, but I already had this enclosure from previous reptiles (thoroughly cleaned) so I’m using it until he gets too big/we build the big cage. Yes we’ve already planned out and are preparing for the 8x4x4 enclosure.
The parents of this baby (male) grew to be 3’ and (female) 2’
The UVB light spans the entire 3ft of the enclosure, I’ve heard only do half but because I have a mesh lid I figured it would be okay? I thought about removing the mesh lid but I Don’t want to risk him getting out, and I Can’t mount it inside becauze the fixture is just a little too large.
His basking spot is 120F measured with an infrared temp gun, There’s a few different levels on the heat spot so a little lower the surface temp is 110, or 105 or 115, and he switches where he goes, he Doesn’t avoid any specific spot he kinda uses all of them, and he Isn’t constantly basking so I think the temp is okay?
He’s pooping fine, what He’s currently eating is, chicken breast, a small bit of chicken liver, tilapia, a little bit of papaya, bell peppers, and blueberries, all dusted with D3 calcium/multivitamin.
He’s been very friendly which was kind of concerning I’m not going to lie. I saw a post and it said “my tegu lets me hold him but Doesn’t do anything is he okay” and a lot of people said he was probably scared or deficient, but my baby tegu climbs on my shoulder while I’m cleaning or changing the water, or he crawls on my hand when I present it to him, so it’s a more heavy focus on “choice based” handling so I think he feels safe.
I got him 9 days ago so I’m not sure if that’s normal or not? He’s very cute though, eats fine, poops fine, I Haven’t seen him drink a whole lot of water but I have seen him drink, and sometimes he’ll slurp up the papaya juice on his plate, I am “target” training, I have a bright red circle and I rest it in there and when he touches it the food comes out, I Don’t think he knows the correlation yet but hey it’s only been a few days.
He’s 10 inches, and 22 grams, hatched July 15 is what the breeder says, he hasn’t shed for me yet and the breeder hasn’t replied when I asked the last time he shed/if he did, I’ve seen photos of the parents, etc. anyways if There’s any other information I forgot let me know!
Oh also He’s finally started burrowing! He’s like a baby architect
