Well Bobby uses it and has no problems, i use it and have no problems, it just seems that you need to take caution when using it, its considered by most people to be one of the best substrates for tegus, what would you consider "the best"?

I tried to find cypress for my tegu but had no luck. I did find a playground mulch that was completely organic and no additives. It looks perfect for burrowing and everything. I couldnt find the type of wood but I asked my herp specialist and he said that it is the additives in pine and cedar that cause problems not the wood itself. I will also be baking all of it before I put it in so I cant imagine what could harm my tegu. Am i missing something?

I saw that too, I dont know it seems a little risky, I dont know if the harm will go away by baking it, but I know that its just pine and cedar have oils that are harmful, you shoul check what wood is in there and if its pine or cedar, try something else its not worth the risk. You just dont want a sick tegu.

Here it is online, under specifications it lists "Cypress (Chamaecyparis, Cupressus, Taxodium)" I think it should be okay.

It could lead to impaction, i know ive been sayin this alot but why dont you do what I do, build a bench and connect it to the front of your cage so when the gus come out of their cage, they lay on the bench and eat out of a bowl, this not only helps with cage aggression, it makes it impossible for them to ingest any substrate and also helps with interaction with your tegu.

I guess we should all remember that while we all follow the "basic guidlines" in caring for our Tegus, I am sure we all do this slightly differently, which is why the cypress works for some and not others. An illustration of what I'm talking about would be: I mist every other day whilemastroj mists daily.

And like me.... I never mist... Ever. I run a humidifier that keep my room at or just over 65-70%

Good point. I agree with that.

I am going to modify a humidifier to use for my tegu's and my water dragons. I am having trouble with humidity with both so I hope it helps.
